Luxury comes in all shapes and sizes, from the smallest perfectly cut diamond to the bold, aerodynamic arcs of the finest luxury motor yacht, from minimalist zen-like curves to ornate art nouveau gilded swirls.

Whatever the design, shape has an important role to play. Three main things determine the shape of something: the style or visual aesthetic, the practical function of the object and ergonomics – the effect shape has on the performance or experience of something when in use. And as sports cars are designed for speed, watches for comfort and golf clubs for power and precision, the shape of cigars is also designed with performance in mind – it can have a big impact on how it’s enjoyed. The part of the cigar is called the foot and the end you put in your mouth is called the head. The shape of the foot, head and everything in between, all have a role to play in the speed at which a cigar burns, the way the smoke travels through it and how a cigar tastes. Different cigar shapes have different names.

The shape Sigaro Toscano most resembles is known as the Perfecto. The Perfecto is narrow at both ends, with an elliptical shape and a bulge at the middle. This middle section is wider than the rest of the cigar, because it’s packed full of tobacco, waiting to be released. As a result, there is great anticipation as the cigar burns. When the flame reaches the centre, the maximum flavours are set free – an experience well worth the wait.

So you see, when it comes to beautiful shapes, there’s often much more to them than meets the eye.
