Where style meets power – Italy’s love of the motorcycle

We’ve already told the story of Italy’s love of cycling, so naturally motorbikes hold a place in the Italian psyche too. Much like bicycles, they helped mobilize a generation, making travel affordable and exciting throughout the country. It helps explain why some of the world’s best motorbike riders are Italian, including racing champions Giacomo Agostini, Valentino ‘The Doctor’ Rossi and Massimiliano "Max" Biaggi.

With a pedigree of style and engineering, the Italians are among the pioneers of modern motorcycle design, building some of the most iconic brands on two wheels including: Moto Guzzi – the brand with an Eagle as an emblem, Italy’s answer to Harley Davidson is Europe’s oldest manufacturer still in production.

Aprilia – one of the most successful championship racing bike manufacturers, and popular with motorsport fans.
Vespa – the irreverent side of two-wheeled transport, Piaggio’s iconic scooter injects fun and style in equal measure.

MV Agusta – the iconic racing brand that’s won more championship world titles than any other, and the only non-Japanese brand to have a vehicle in every category of motorcycle. Ducati – synonymous with high performance and cutting edge technology, Ducati is a premium brand with style.

Gilera – Itay’s oldest motorcycle brand and pioneer of the industry. Today it stands for innovation and adventure.
With such a strong heritage for all things two-wheeled, it’s no wonder the biggest event on the world motorcycling calendar, EICMA, is held in Milan every year.
