Italians on Italians
Beyond Toscano

Ever wanted to feel like James Bond? You can here.

With a reputation for shooting on location in some of the most beautiful places in the world, it was only a matter of time before the makers of the ever-popular James Bond film series returned to Italy.

In the 22nd Bond movie ‘A Quantum of Solace’, the film opens with Britain’s most famous secret agent driving down a winding road in his Aston Martin DBS V12, with a villain captive in the trunk. It isn’t long before he’s intercepted and a thrilling car chase ensues, against a stunning – yet hair-raising backdrop.

The scene showcases the breathtaking (yet dully-named) Provincial Road No.38 as it snakes through tunnels carved out of the cliffs at the edges of pristine Lake Garda – the largest lake in Italy. Once British Prime Minister Winston Churchill himself called the road the 8th Wonder of the World. Considered an impossible feat of engineering at the time, the now 100 year old road offers drivers travelling to Pieve and Tremosine the same incredible views as the very day it was opened. Although chances are, you’ll be travelling down it a lot faster than its original users, even if not quite at 007 speeds.
